Created in 2013 by Mildred & Neil Stephens, we design and manufacture all jewelry in our sustainable shop. Located in Seattle, Washington. We source sustainable gemstones and recycled precious metals. It is our goal to raise awareness around the impact jewelry industry has on the environment and people.
Our mission is to cultivate a more honest, guileless, and sustainable jewelry industry. We hold true to our values of cognizance and transparency by carefully tracking our diamonds' origin. We move beyond the standard coarse to guarantee that our diamonds originate from ethical and environmentally responsible sources.
“It is mandatory that we place sustainability at the heart of what we do, we have no greater responsibility than to do so ethically and sustainably.” - Mildred,Founder

PROTECTING HUMAN RIGHTS
We vouch that our diamonds are unstained by all human rights maltreats, including child labor, forced labor, murder, torture, and ravishment. We believe it is vital to infract the connection between diamonds and all forms of exploitation and excruciation.
All of our diamonds are mined in conformity with fair trade principles, providing local employment, in a safe and progressive work environment. Diamond miners receive reasonable compensation, education, and skilled job training.
Ethically sourced diamonds boost long term economic development that helps local communities. Diamond proceeds enable investments in infrastructure, education, and health care. An economic cycle that favors all concerned parties.
PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
Environmental desolation should not be consequential to diamond mining. All of our diamonds are sourced abiding to rigorous international environmental measures, that safeguard local ecosystems.
We cautiously trail the origins of all our diamonds to guarantee that they are ethically mined, shaped, and polished. Our tracking ability sees to it that our diamonds enter a supply chain that is not subverted by any unethical practices.
What Sets Us Apart
Jewelers that offer "conflict-free" diamonds are confining themselves to the Kimberley Process's definition. The Kimberly process has proved inefficiant at weeding out all unethically mined diamonds. The Kimberley Process Certification (KP) is failing to ensure the conflict-free status of the diamonds it certifies. The main reasons it was destined to fail because, in context to the blood diamond issue, there has not been, in the jewelry sector, significant or meaningful public accountability. The death of millions of Africans in the conflict diamond wars has become a marketing problem, or merely “a statistic.”
Bashford is passionate about Ethics. For the word ethical to succeed and have meaning, it must have three main ingredients: Truth, Transparency and Traceability.
We offer responsibly-mined and fully-traceable diamonds. These are guaranteed 100% natural and free of any treatments.
Our diamonds can be tracked through audited processes to ensure their traceability.
RECYCLED PRECIOUS METALS
As a portion of our dedication to environmental responsibility, Bashford Jewelry uses recycled precious metals in all of our fine jewelry. We ensure our customers eco-friendly gold and platinum are of the highest quality. Metal mining - gold excavation in particular - is one of the most environmentally destructive types of mining, with 20 tons of ore required to produce enough gold for a single ring.
WHAT ARE THE NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES OF GOLD MINING?
• Water pollution and environmental ravaging due to dirty gold mining practices • Poor safety measures for miners • Inhumane drudge practices • Neglect for the rights and interests of indigenous peoples
WHAT CAN WE DO?
We can opt recycled metals to lessen the global demand for newly mined gold. This will decrease the environmentally and socially contaminating gold and other metal mining practices. Precious metals can be reprocessed with no abjection in caliber, this is one of the beauty gold possesses, they are a naturally renewable resource.
“PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT, REDUCE DEMAND FOR DIRTY GOLD, CHOOSE RECYCLED PRECIOUS METALS.”
