Forests Support People and Nature

The Plant a Billion Trees campaign is an unprecedented restoration initiative launched by The Nature Conservancy in 2008. Our first project was to restore Brazil's Atlantic Forest, and now we have expanded to include forest projects in the United States and China. By planting trees and helping forests regrow where they have been severely degraded, we're helping to ensure clean water, air, diverse species and full, healthy forests for future generations.

Charity: water focuses on life’s most basic need -- water. But to significantly cut down disease rates in the developing world, water is just the first step. Almost everywhere charity: water builds a freshwater well, we also require sanitation training. In some communities, we build latrines; at the very least, we promote simple hand-washing stations made with readily-available materials. According to the United Nations, there are 805 million people around the world who are hungry. As the world’s largest restaurant company, we believe it is our privilege and responsibility to make a difference in the lives of others less fortunate who are hungry around the globe.In the past eight years, 1.5 million employees, franchisees and their families have volunteered millions of hours to aid hunger relief efforts in communities worldwide. The effort has raised $600 million in cash and food donations for the World Food Programme (WFP) and other hunger relief organizations and is helping to provide 2.4 billion meals to people in remote corners of the world.

ANIMAL RIGHTS

Animals are not ours to wear, experiment, use for entertainment or abuse in any other way.People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 3 million members and supporters.PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds, and other “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals.

BREAST CANCER

Providing help to those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education and support services.Breastcancer.org is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the most reliable, complete, and up-to-date information about breast cancer.Their mission is to help women and their loved ones make sense of the complex medical and personal information about breast health and breast cancer, so they can make the best decisions for their lives. • Helping nearly 10 million individuals a year to find the medical information, support and hope they need at a time when they need it most. • Helping to reach citizens of every continent with medical information that is extremely difficult to access in many regions of the world. • Helping to influence major funders to support breast cancer education by growing a strong base of support. • Empowering patients, advocates, families and their support networks.

DISASTER RELIEF

Making a difference in just one person's life, the world has been changed for the better.Reach Out WorldWide (ROWW) - consisting of skilled volunteers - is a non-profit registered 501(c)3 organization. While part of a relief team responding to the massive earthquakes that devastated Haiti on January 12, 2010; Actor/Producer Paul Walker saw a gap between the availability of skilled resources and the requirement for such personnel in post-disaster situations. Following the trip he contacted a group of his friends to assist him in forming ROWW with the purpose of filling this unmet need.ROWW is a network of committed professionals with first responder skill-set (including project management, logistics, heavy equipment operation, EMT, paramedic, firefighting, and healthcare, etc). The volunteers provide their expertise when disasters strike and augment local resources with the goal of accelerating relief efforts on a worldwide basis. ROWW has developed Standard Operating Procedures that facilitate arriving quickly, clearing access, providing basic necessities and medical assistance to ease the survivors' pain and bringing hope in the bleakest of circumstances

SLAVERY

There are more slaves in the world today than at any other point in human history, with an estimated 27 million in bondage across the globe. Men, women, and children are being exploited for manual and sexual labor against their will.The A21 Campaign exists to abolish the injustice of human trafficking through a comprehensive approach, which includes working alongside law enforcement to reach, rescue, shelter, and restore victims of the sex trafficking industry, as well as in the area of prevention and raising awareness across the globe. The A21 Crisis shelter, project center, and restoration program is located in Greece, which has been labeled the “center of human trafficking,” and A21 also works on the ground in Ukraine and Bulgaria, which is a country of origin for victims of human trafficking. In Ukraine and Bulgaria, we actively work in the area of prevention in schools, awareness programs and managing our restoration homes.

ADDICTION

The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Center in Seattle provides spiritual, social and emotional assistance for men and women who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves. This center offers residential housing, work, and group and individual therapy, all in a clean, wholesome environment.The physical and spiritual care that program participants receive prepares them to re-enter society and return to gainful employment. Many of those who have been rehabilitated are reunited with their families and resume a normal life.
